CHENILLE
Chenille, the French word for caterpillar, is used to describe a type of yarn. Chenille is named from the unique process by which it is made. Chenille yarn is manufactured by placing short lengths of yarn, called the "pile" between two core yarns and then twisting the yarn together. The edges of these piles then stand at right angles from the yarn core, giving chenille both its softness and its characteristic look. Chenille will look different depending how the fibers catch the light. It may even appear iridescent without actually using iridescent fibers. Rayon chenille used in weaving, produces supple, soft, and cozy fabrics. It is great for everyone, especially for people with allergies to wool, it is light and yet warm. The yarn used is solid colors or space dyed. I use space dyed yarns designed and dyed by Tammy (
yarntopiatreasures). Rayon chenille makes fabulous garments such as scarves, shawls and jackets. These garments are beautiful, versatile, and sophistically designed for all ages and occasions; they are elegant and stylish, yet wonderful to touch and to wear.
DISCHARGED OR OVER DYED GARMENTS:
Some of the garments you will find will be termed as "discharged" or over dyed. The fabric again was woven using fiber called rayon chenille. After weaving and initial washing the fabric is stitched or wrapped on the pole, using a Japanese technique called shibori, to remove the original color or add additional color (or over dye). Thereby, changing the appearance of the fabric giving it a unique look in the garment.
CARE
All garments have been washed and dried. The delicate nature of fabric requires special care. Instructions are included with any purchased item. If the garments require cleaning please dry clean them. Some items (without the fringes) can be washed by hand and dried flat and at the end for 5 minutes in the dryer to regain fluffiness. But repetitive processes can damage the fabric, so please adhere to directions. DO NOT machine wash or dry if there are fringes! If you follow these simple instruction, your garments will last for years!
